Christian Education

Welcome to Sunday School

Welcome to Christian Education at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.  We begin meeting the second Sunday in September through the third Sunday in May from 9:30 until the end of worship service. The classes meet on the second, third, fourth and any fifth Sunday of the month.  The first Sunday of the month from 9:30 to 10:30 is Family Worship.  This is an opportunity for the children to experience a church service.  The pastor sets aside a few moments with the children during worship to interact with them.

Students from three years old through 2nd grade meet in an upstairs classroom. They begin their morning with devotions.  Then they have their own mini-worship service where they sing songs, share their joys and concerns, greet one another, collect an offering, and end with the Lord’s Prayer.  Next, they hear a story from the Bible.  The curriculum we use follows the Revised Common Lectionary.  Following the lesson, the children make a craft that ties into the lesson learned from the Bible story. They also have a snack, something along the lines of a cookies and water.

Students in 3rd through 8th grade meet downstairs in the Youth room.  They use a curriculum which focuses on challenging the students to put their faith into action.

During the summer months, we offer “Son”shine church for children ages 3 years-2nd grade. “Son”shine church takes place on the same Sundays as Sunday school. The children attend church, meet with Rev. Mark for children’s time and then go to a Sunday school room for a story, craft, and snack.

Each year, we hold a summer Vacation Bible School program for children ages 3 years – 3rd grade. Information about registration is sent home with students and can be found in the monthly KEY newsletter.  During the holiday season, the students present a Christmas pageant to the congregation.
